•	Elyria High School football great Vic Janowicz won the Heismann Trophy in 1950.
•	In 1858 two Elyrians were granted the first U.S. patent for a sewing machine.  Made in Elyria, it is now part of the Smithsonian collection in Washington D.C.
•	Until around 1977 there was an octagonal house about one block from the town square.
•	Elyria is world headquarters to Ridge Tool, makers of the Ridgid Tool Calendar, which "discovered" Raquel Welch.
•	Each of the three giant water towers in Elyria holds one million gallons of water - enough to fill a line of milk jugs 94.7 miles long.
•	The first "one-eyed" (single headlight) car was a "Garford Six", made in Elyria.

•	Cities which share Elyria's approximate latitude include Providence, Rhode Island,  Barcelona, Spain,  Naples, Italy,  Istanbul, Turkey,  and Laramie, Wyoming.

•	The term "hamburger" was coined at the 1892 Lorain County Fair in Elyria.
•	Elyria industrialist Arthur L. Garford invented the modern padded bicycle seat.

•	The Worthington company of Elyria was the originator of the colored golf ball.
